Pep Boys Indy Racing League Media Tour

A Visit to the Team Menard Shop

Tony Stewart, Robbie Buhl, John Menard and Larry Curry greeted the media as they assembled in the 20,000 square foot shop of Team Menard located in an up-scale industrial park in Indianapolis. The four key figures in the team fielded questions from the media and shared information on the Pep Boys Indy Racing League 1998 season. Menard, the owner and power behind the team, gave insight on how the team prepared for events and pushed themselves to excellences that have always been a part of Menard's efforts. A self made millonaire, Menard created a successful building supply business and then turned his efforts to doing the same in Indy car racing. His cars have carried dozens of great drivers to the front of the field and on to victory lane for years. Menard sees this as something that he plans to continue with in the 1998 season. Will this team repeat as Pep Boys IRL champs? If it can be done, this deciated group of more than 30 professionals known as Team Menard will.

Scott Brayton drove the Menard number 32 in 1996 and captured the pole position for the Indy 500.

Two of the many Team Menard mechanics prepare the car of Tony Stewart, 1997 Pep Boys IRL Champion.
One of several cars built for Robbie Buhl. Buhl is half of the Team Menard championship stable for 1998.

The number 3T is a test car for Buhl and a backup for events like the Indy 500. The car is complete and ready to race.
This is the Olds Aurora 4.0 V-8 as prepared by Team Menard. This engine is one of the two power plant options that are currently available for use in the Pep Boys Indy Racing League.

Robbie Buhl, a champion in the Indy Lights series, has had one win in 1997 in the Pep Boys IRL and is headed for more wins in 1998. Here Buhl answers the tough questions in a one-on- one interview with a member of the media.
All Olds Aurora engines are not created equal and here is where they find out just how unequal they might be. The Team Menard dyno measures the extra muscle that they build into their engines. Ear plugs required!

Team Menard mechanics put the finishing touches on a car for Robbie Buhl set to practice and possibly start in the field of Pep Boys Indy 500.
