The Petersen Auto Museum

The Petersen Auto Museum is located at 6060 Wilshire Blvd. in Los Angeles, California. It contains exhibits dedicated to the history of the automobile and includes a full scale reproduction of scenes and buildings that marked important milestones in the development of the motor car and Los Angeles. Five galleries house changing exhibitions of various types of vehicles, while other galleries display automobile art, photographs, toys and memorabilia. Open Tuesday through Sunday 10-6 (also Fridays 6-9 pm). The museum is closed on Mondays. The local telephone number is (213) 930-CARS. We at AutoSpeak highly recommend a visit to the Petersen Automotive Museum if you have an interest in autos. Click on the photo to see the larger version or to download an image to your computer.

The Petersen Museum has a great collection of cars and also has an interesting exhibit of auto related items such as these gas pumps.

Between 1949-1991 this Pierson Brothers Number 2D Eldebrock Special set more land speed records than any other car in the world.

The TV series "The Dukes of Hazard" helped make this 1969 Dodge Charger one of the best known cars in the world. The "General Lee" shown here was used in a reunion show of the Duke Boys.

This is a 1914 Dudely Bug cycle car. Very popular in the early days of the auto, this is one of those rare commodities that died out in the post World War I days of America.

This is a 1932 Ford Model BB Tow Car. Yes, it is a car not a truck. In the early days of the automobile, the chore of towing a vehicle was done by another car, albeit a heavy duty one.

This 1931 Chrysler is not only in "showroom condition" but is actually in an auto showroom in one of the many authentic displays setup throughout the museum.
