Ask your car insurance agent about discounts for you and your underage driver if any of the below conditions apply.

1. Your child is away at college and does not have a car there.

2. He/she does have a car at school, but is in a state with lower insurance rates than where you live.

3. Your child has good grades, a good driving record or has taken driver education classes. Any or all three of these factors may earn you a discount.

4. Your child drives an older car. You also may be able to drop comprehensive coverage. Plus, if their car is not driven heavily and you have a history of no claims you may get a discount.

You have nothing to lose asking for these discounts. The insurance company can only say no to your inquiry.
