How
much air is too much?
Here's
a multiple choice question from the Car Care Council that
has fooled more than one expert. Keeping tires properly inflated
extends their life and saves fuel.
Correct
inflation is (a) written on the sidewall of the tire; (b)
32 p.s.i.; (c) listed in the owner's manual; (d) posted on
a sticker on the door jamb.
The
answer is (c) or (d). The maximum load and maximum inflation
pressure stamped on the tire's sidewall are exactly that:
MAXIMUM recommended for that particular tire. Excessive inflation
and load not only can damage the tire, it also can accelerate
wear.
